Tarisha Calvin, Therapy Intern

Welcome to Tarisha’s Office

Meet Tarisha Calvin, Therapy Intern.

Hello! My name is Tarisha Calvin, and I am a Therapy Intern at Best Life Louisville Mental Health Services. I was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, and much of what has led me to this work comes from years of supporting people through difficult, complicated, and deeply personal seasons of life. Those experiences shaped my desire to become a therapist and continue walking alongside individuals, couples, and families as they navigate change, relationships, loss, caregiving, and the many challenges life can bring.

Before beginning my journey as a therapist, I spent many years working in behavioral health, crisis intervention, case management, waiver supports, disability services, and community-based care. Through this work, I have had the privilege of supporting individuals and families as they navigated grief, caregiving responsibilities, trauma, relationship challenges, major life transitions, and systems that often felt difficult to understand or access. These experiences strengthened my ability to see the whole person—including their relationships, environment, culture, strengths, and support needs.

My therapeutic approach is person-centered, strengths-based, culturally responsive, and grounded in the belief that people are more than the challenges they are facing. I believe clients already possess strengths, wisdom, and resilience that can support meaningful change. My role is not to tell clients how to live their lives. Instead, I strive to create a safe, collaborative space where clients feel heard and respected as they explore their experiences and discover what healing looks like for them.

I am especially interested in working with individuals, couples, caregivers, and families experiencing relationship concerns, parenting stress, caregiver fatigue, grief, anxiety, identity concerns, and life transitions. I also have a deep passion for supporting families of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and helping people advocate for themselves within complex systems.

More About Me

My faith, family, and community are important parts of who I am. I am a wife, mother, grandmother, lifelong learner, and advocate who understands that people often carry responsibilities and emotional burdens that others may never see.

Outside of therapy, one of my greatest joys is watching my boys play football and supporting them in the things they love. I enjoy traveling, exploring new places, spending quality time with my family, writing, reading, and creating meaningful projects. I have also developed a newfound love for baking. It has become another way for me to slow down, be creative, and share something made with love with the people around me.

I understand that reaching out for support can feel uncomfortable or even frightening. You do not have to have everything figured out before beginning therapy. Sometimes healing begins when you finally have a space where you no longer have to be strong for everyone else or carry everything by yourself.

It would be an honor to walk alongside you as you reconnect with your strengths, create healthier relationships, and move toward a life that feels more peaceful, fulfilling, and authentic.
