Kyla Arroyo, Therapy Intern

Welcome to Kyla’s Office

Meet Kyla Arroyo, Therapy Intern.

I grew up in Louisville, where my early experiences with education and identity shaped how I see systems and belonging. For nearly a decade, I worked in higher education and student advocacy, supporting students through disability services, crisis response, and holistic care. Over time, I realized what fulfilled me most was hearing people’s stories and helping them find their voice—leading me to pursue counseling.

Now as a therapy intern at Best Life Mental Health Services, I draw from trauma-informed, person-centered, and culturally grounded approaches to support clients navigating trauma, identity, systemic stress, and life transitions. I’m especially passionate about working with LGBTQ+ clients and children and families impacted by the foster and adoption systems.

My goal is to create an affirming, collaborative space where clients can explore who they are, process what they’ve survived, and build lives rooted in self-compassion and belonging.

Therapeutic Focus

I work with LGBTQ+ and BIPOC clients who have learned to survive in spaces not built for them. Many come to therapy struggling with anxiety, trauma, identity conflict, or disconnection. Together, we create a space to unpack those experiences, explore life beyond survival, and begin to thrive.

Areas of Specialty

African American Therapy

As a Black woman who’s also been in therapy, I understand how powerful it is to be truly seen. My approach is rooted in cultural understanding, trauma awareness, and honoring the resilience within our communities.
Together, we’ll work to:

  • Manage stress, anxiety, and burnout

  • Heal from race-based or generational trauma

  • Navigate life transitions and systemic barriers

  • Cope with grief, loss, or family strain

  • Reconnect with joy, identity, and purpose

LGBTQIA+ Clients

As part of the LGBTQ+ community, I know how hard it can be to find affirming care. I strive to offer a space where your identity is celebrated—not explained.
Together, we’ll work to:

  • Manage stress, anxiety, or depression tied to identity

  • Heal from rejection or internalized shame

  • Explore gender identity or transition with compassion

  • Strengthen relationships and boundaries

  • Cultivate resilience, joy, and authenticity

Therapy for Children & Families in the Foster System

Having personally navigated the foster-to-adopt experience, I understand how complex and emotional that journey can be. I use expressive activities—drawing, storytelling, play—to help children communicate safely, and I support caregivers in understanding trauma and rebuilding trust.
Therapy can help:

  • Process grief, loss, or identity confusion

  • Strengthen communication and emotional safety

  • Build tools for trust, stability, and connection
